Kia ora koutou, welcome to Weston School.
We are very proud of our school, our students and the programmes that we offer. Being a full primary we enjoy a real family atmosphere, and utilise the skills of our senior students to support our junior students as and when we can.
We take pride in working closely with whanau to support our learners, and you can be sure that teachers keep the lines of communication open. We also encourage you as parents, to make contact with teachers, as you wish. This might be with a query or question - or it might just be to touch base.
We offer a wide variety of programmes - from academic, sporting and cultural opportunities - in both during and after school programmes. Our children take up these opportunities with much enthusiasm and as a result we have a presence in a wide range of local cultural and sporting competitions.
We are well established as a Silver Enviroschool and are very proud of the continual developments that are happening with this. As well as our extensive garden and planting programmes, as a school we are looking at how we can reduce our waste and have an active recycling centre on our site. We have a very fruitful garden, orchard, and tunnel house, and with our Kitchen Classroom alongside these, our children get a lot of opportunities to see the authenticity of garden to plate. Our skink garden is like no other and our Enviro Schools group are very active within our school and our wider community.
Through our Yr 7 & 8 Technology programmes we have developed a number of collaborative relationships with the greater community and industries in our area as a focus for our learning in a localised context.
Our Maker Space is enabling us to embrace Digital Technologies. This has come about as a result of a range of grants from the Oamaru Licensing Trust, the Otago Community Trust and our very own Home and School. This provides a range of learning opportunities in both classroom programmes and those of specialist areas.
Our school is a place of vibrant energy, where our students are front and centre of all that we do.
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me directly, or one of my welcoming staff.
We hope that you are as excited about our school, as we are.
Ngā mihi nui
